DoroTree
Technologies Ltd. is a commercial software manufacturer in Jerusalem, Israel, that markets
and promotes its products through the internet and via email campaigns, in addition to
conventional sales activities, such as retail and mail-order. Our object is to promote our
products by disseminating information about them according to what we consider to be a
balanced, legitimate and ethical policy.
The
following is a disclosure of the principles that we adhere to:
The abuse and
misuse of email is a serious problem and DoroTree Technologies is committed to a
responsible anti-spamming policy. Under this policy, we only disseminate commercial emails
under the following cirucumstances:
- We
periodically send a DoroTreeLetter newsletter to our customers and registered
users, except where such customers or registered users have expressed his/her explicit
request not to receive such mail. (A customer is somebody who has bought our
software, a registered user is somebody who has registered with us as the
legal user of the license for the software.)
- Between 3
weeks and half a year after a potential customer or user has downloaded our Demo
(Try & Buy) software, we follow up with an offer to buy our software, in
order to encourage the downloader to turn into a customer. This is customary policy for
free online software download providers.
- We have been
referred to a persons or companys email address by a person, society or
company that we have reason to believe has a fair understanding of our product.
- We have
received the email address from a person or company that has expressed a wish to receive
information on our product or that we have reason to believe may be interested in our
product.
Definition of UCE (Unsolicited Commercial Email), or Spam
- Bulk UCE,
promotional material, or other forms of solicitation sent via email that advertise any IP
address or URL belonging to or pointing to any URL (domain) that is unrelated to the
promoting party, whether directly or indirectly.
- Unsolicited
anonymous postings to newsgroups.
- Forging or
misrepresenting the senders identity or the sending domain name, whether in whole or
in part, to mask the true identity of the sender.
- The use of
web-pages set up on ISPs that allow spam (also known as "ghost sites") that
directly or indirectly reference customers to domains or IP addresses non-related.
- Advertising,
transmitting, or otherwise making available any software, program, product, or service
that is designed to facilitate a means to spam.
- Forging or
misrepresenting message headers, whether in whole or in part, to mask the true origin of
the message.
- Showing the
recipient of the email lists of other email recipients.
- The email
message contains potentially offending messages, such as messages that can be defined as
pornographic, sexist, racist or political.
- Since
recipients who receive what they may consider unsolicited emails periodically become angry
and send complaints to spam ecologists, we publish our email campaign policy clearly on
our web site.
- We disclose
our policy because we do certainly not see our email campaigns as spam. Our campaigns are
characterized by the fact that they contain all the following components that define
ethically justified email campaigns:
- We do not
disseminate primar email campaigns more frequently than twice per year.
- We do not knowingly
send more than one message per email address.
- We always state a
complete email sender address.
- We dont hide
and clearly show our own domain name.
- We try to minimize
the size of the email message.
- We strive to
maintain favorable business relationships in the web community and do not allow any
company practice that threatens these relationships.
Email campaigns
are an excellent vehicle for distributing focused, targeted information to an interested,
receptive audience.
Unfortunately,
some marketers misuse mailing lists through a lack of understanding of Internet customs
and rules of the forum pertaining to email. Others fail to take adequate precautions to
prevent the lists they manage from being used in an abusive manner. We do the following:
- In case a
recipient of an email campaign message sends us a Remove message, special
suppression markers are entered into our email lists for the relevant email
address. The suppression marker enables us to avoid that such an email address
will be used by us in the future.
- Email
addresses provided by new customers and/or registered users are considered as authorized
for receipt of emails from us, unless otherwise requested. (Such a request is communicated
to us by means of an email message carrying the Subject title Remove, where
the sending email address is the one that will be suppressed on our active email list.
- We use
management procedures such as pruning of invalid or undeliverable addresses, and take
steps to ensure that mailings do not overwhelm other hosts or networks.
- Our mailing
list administrator takes adequate steps to ensure that our lists are not used for abusive
purposes. We maintain a "suppression list" of email addresses from which all
subscription requests are rejected.
Like any
administrative or other action, handled by human beings, email campaigns may be based on
lacking information, wrong information and occasionally even dis-information. We apologize
if a mistake has been made that affects you, and will do every reasonable effort to avoid
a repetition of such an error.
If you feel offended by our
email message to you we apologize, and we are interested to receive your ideas on why you
found our message offending, in order to learn from your feedback. Please address your
comments to promotions@dorotree.com.
We regard emails
with an offending language and threats of illegal actions against us or our providers as
unsolicited mail and reserve our right to act on any violation of the law that may be
contained in it.
